Prototype Description:
The ACF 33,500 gallon tank car (DOT 105J400W) is commonly seen transporting Non-Odorized Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and other hazardous material of which the DOT requires stronger tank cars for transportation. The DOT 105J400W is designed with additional head protection and increased thermal insulation protection to keep the product cool during normal operations and as an additional layer of protection in the event of an incident. Also, each car is designed with a thermal safety relief valve set at 300 psig in the event the contents of the tank should reach their vapor pressure point at a temperature of 105F. These cars can be seen regularly in packs or traveling singly in mixed freight trains throughout North America going from Producers to Distributors.
